How to Care for and Maintain Your Concrete Basin

A concrete basin can be a vocal point in any bathroom, but like any building material they can deteriorate over time. Regular care and maintenance will reduce the deterioration process.

When keeping your concrete basin clean it is best to not use any abrasive or acidic cleaners. These can can include products such as chemical cleaners, lemon or vinegar. Using an abrasive cleaner is like rubbing your basin with fine sandpaper, which can erode the waterproof coating. Concrete is a highly alkaline building material, with a pH level above 7. We recommend pH-neutral cleaners and avoid abrasive scrubbing pads. A mild dishwashing soap will typically have a pH level of 7, making it a great cleaning alternative.

You should wipe the basin dry after every use, in doing so this can reduce hard water deposits. Preventing the development of surface deposits is important, but if deposits do build up the best way to minimise them is to use hot water and a soapy soft cloth to wipe the surface.

The porous nature of concrete can result in your basin absorbing stains. To reduce the potential surface imperfection you should clean the stain as soon as it occurs, a stain will penetrate into the basin the longer it is left and in same cases may become permanent.
